Tourism to southwest Saskatchewan injects 225 million dollars into our local economy. The S.W. Sask. Tourism & Investment Attraction Hub (TIA Hub) is the "doorway" through which many Trans-Canada Highway travellers first experience a taste of our region. Interactions with the Visitor Centre Attendants at the TIA Hub is critical, as they inspire travellers' imaginations and spark their interest in both exploration and investment opportunities in Southwest Saskatchewan by sharing the "Southwest Story". This includes: showcasing tourism experiences, quality of life, local businesses, and investment opportunities across the southwest. Ultimately, it is the function of the Visitor Centre Attendants to “sell” our participating communities to the Trans-Canada Highway travellers.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both verbal & written).
- Fantastic customer service skills.
- Awesome sales skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the tourism products, attractions & experiences available to visitors in our participating communities.
- Strong computer skills (particularly experience with word processing, e-mail, & social media).
- Exceptional critical thinking and analytical ability to meet traveller needs
- Professional demeanor, tidy, well groomed and well organized.
- Self-motivated team player who works effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Possess a valid Class V Driver’s Licence.
Duties:
- Provide visitors with detailed information about the attractions, activities, events, accommodations, restaurants, tourism facilities, products, and services of our participating communities.
- Provide information about jobs, business transitions, and investment opportunities in our participating communities, encouraging connections with the Economic Development Officers in each of the participating communities.
- Ensure a ready supply of tourism and investment attraction information is available for distribution to the public, including tourism publications, maps, job listings, business transitions, community profiles, and investment opportunities.
- Monitor the Visitor Centre voice-mail.
- Ensuring the Sask Investment maintains a professional and welcoming appearance that makes a positive first impression for visitors to the building. This includes:
- Ensuring that the brochure racks, signs, and posters are neatly organized.
- Giftware is placed in an appealing manner and is free from dust.
- The reception counter is clean, welcoming, and uncluttered.
- The work area behind the reception counter is tidy, orderly, and conveys a professional atmosphere.
- Cleaning of floors, furniture, glass, and washrooms in order to keep the Visitor Centre looking fresh and welcoming.
- Maintaining the flower barrels in front of the Visitor Centre, and ensuring the area around the building is tidy.
- Ensuring that the informational communications including the “sandwich board” are updated regularly and placed accordingly.
- Collect and compile visitor statistics to report them monthly.
- Actively search out and/or solicit event and investment information from participating communities.
- May make and/or distribute posters as required to promote summer activities, festivals & events.
- Bring advertising and marketing opportunities to the attention of the TIA Hub supervisor.
- May respond to tourism and investment related inquiries either in person at the Visitor Centre, over the telephone, and passing along inquiry leads to the Economic Development Officers for the appropriate participating community.
- May include Visitor Centre gift-shop, including ordering giftware/souvenirs (as directed), pricing and displaying merchandise, maintaining product inventory, overseeing sales and cashing-out/preparing deposits.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- As the Southwest Saskatchewan Tourism & Investment Hub is open seven days a week, working weekends will be required and it is shift work with variable hours on rotation with other team members.
- Scheduled hours are flexible and may exceed eight hours per day or forty hours per calendar week, but shall not exceed the total number of working hours in any given month based on eight hours per day without receiving overtime.
- The work location is the Trans-Canada Visitor Reception Centre (Highway #1 West).
- There is the requirement to spend some time working outdoors to tend to flowerpots and tidy up the grounds around the building.
- The position may require occasional travel in support of regional promotional activities and/or familiarization tours.
This position reports directly to the TIA Hub Manager or the Chair of the TIA Hub Steering Committee in the absence of the manager.
